After many trials and error, I've managed to successfully install Windows XP operating system on a HP Compaq CQ40 (Intel) laptop.
Please refer the step by step guide below on how to install Windows XP on Compaq CQ40 notebook.

The following method was successful in a Compaq CQ4-337TU laptop. I would appreciate if someone can try this method on other Intel based CQ40 laptop and update this forum.

1. Download SATA driver from this location: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?e0zh41mzn0n


2. Copy all the driver files from the "32" folder and save inside a floppy.


3. Put the Floppy into the External Floppy Drive and then connect in to your notebook using USB.


4. Insert Windows XP CD (preferably Windows XP SP2) and boot the CD.


5. Once the Installation start, press on F6 button to install the additional ACHI/SATA driver.


6. As the installation go on, you'll be asked to specify the SATA driver which you want to use to install windows.


7. Click S to specify the SATA driver and choose: Intel ICH9 (MObile)

You'll be able to install Windows XP without facing the bluescreen problem (for those who are still getting the blue screen issue, please download the relevant SATA driver for your notebook).

8. Once you have install Windows XP, you may have to downgrade your BIOS to version F.11E in order to make the audio work. Download and install the BIOS Driver: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ynwgnmjided

9. Now, since you have downgraded your BIOS, you will have to reinstall Windows XP again. You won't be able to use the same SATA driver which you have used previsouly. Do step 1 to 7 again, but use this SATA Driver: http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ltzn3f4xmf4

10. After installing Windows XP, you'll be able to install all the other drivers.
